Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, also known as Lewa Downs, is a renowned wildlife sanctuary located in northern Kenya's Meru County. Situated south of Isiolo town and north of Mount Kenya, this conservancy spans over 62,000 acres (250 km²) and includes the lush Ngare Ndare Forest. Established in 1995, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has become a cornerstone of wildlife conservation and community development in the region.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy offers an exceptional wildlife experience. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including rare and endangered species such as black rhinos, Grevy's zebras, and sitatungas. The Conservancy also features the iconic "Big Five" game animals: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and Cape buffaloes. Notably, Lewa conserves over 12% of Kenya's eastern black rhinoceros population and hosts the largest single population of Grevy's zebras in the world, with approximately 350 individuals.
