Itinerary
Day: 1 | Arrival, transfer Dar Es Salaam Serena Hotel
You’ll arrive in Dar-es-Salaam and be met at the airport, where you’ll be transferred to the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel. Located at the heart of the city centre, the Dar es Salaam hotel is just moments from sandy Indian Ocean beaches, a bustling fish market, boutiques and restaurants. Spend the rest of the day at your own pace either enjoying the luxury hotel facilities or exploring the delights of Tanzania’s capital city. The Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel (formerly Moevenpick Royal Palm) is set within lush tropical gardens in the city centre of Dar es Salaam, 20 minutes’ drive from the International Airport. It is a great choice as a city stopover as it combines superb accommodation, fine cuisine and personalised service with a good location close to the city’s best areas for shopping, nightlife and restaurants.
Dar es Salaam Serena offers a broad choice of dining options. L’Oliveto is a Mediterranean restaurant where guests enjoy the finest dishes prepared by an Italian chef. The Serengeti 24 hour Brasserie serves excellent buffet meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Island Trader Bar & Restaurant has informal light meals and snacks on the pool terrace which overlooks beautifully manicured private gardens. There is also a further bar and a lovely patisserie / coffee shop serving freshly baked pastries, cakes and baguettes.
Days: 2-4 | Ruaha National Park
Following some breakfast a morning transfer awaits to take you from your hotel to the airport for a scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park. Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania. The name of the park is derived from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its southeastern margin and is the focus for game-viewing. Check in at the Jabali Ridge Lodge. Jabali Ridge is a stylish camp in the wildlife-rich Ruaha National Park, set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mwagusi River and Ikuka escarpment. A landscape of sun-bleached plains, mighty baobabs and hardy shrubs, Ruaha is home to large numbers of lion, elephant, buffalo and even endangered African wild dogs. During the rainy season, visitors can hear the incredible thundering of the Ikuka waterfalls and even witness the Mwagusi beginning to flow after being dry for seven months. The dry season is equally exciting, with opportunities to spot buffalo herds in the riverbed and elephants digging in the sand for water. Jabali Ridge’s eight suites are set among giant granite boulders. Relax in the hammock on your wooden deck and unwind with a book. Cool off in the glorious infinity pool, which overlooks the vast plains, or head to our spa to smooth out any tensions with a hot-stone massage. After a day spent walking through the bush or tracking lions in a game vehicle, pause for a refreshing G&T as the sun sets over Ruaha.
Day: 5-7 | Nyerere National Park
After breakfast at the lodge, enjoy one last morning safari drive in Ruaha before heading to the airport to catch a flight to Nyerere National Park (Formerly Selous Game Reserve), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival you will be greeted by a member of our team who will help you transfer to Sand Rivers Selous in time for lunch. The beautiful Sand Rivers Selous is perched high on a rocky peninsula in the spectacular Selous Game Reserve. With its breathtaking views of the Rufiji River, this luxury lodge offers a unique combination of adventure, comfort and exclusivity. Just eight open-fronted stone and thatch chalets offer spacious and light interiors, as well as panoramic views over the river. Guests can make the most of a spacious design that welcomes the outside in, with plenty of natural light and cooling breezes right off the river.
Guest areas include a charming dining room where guests can tuck into delicious meals, served on an enormous tree that has been converted into a dining table. Breakfasts are served at the lodge or in the pristine bush. A sparkling swimming pool looks out directly onto the river. A selection of adventures await guests, from exhilarating game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles to bush walks, fly camping and boat cruises on the Rufiji River.
Day: 5 | Transfer Dar Es Salaam, Departure
Following a final breakfast at the lodge you’ll be taken by a driver to the airport to catch a scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam’s JKN International Airport. You tour ends upon arrival.
